What does it mean to engage?

(transitive) To pledge, to put something at risk or on the line.
(intransitive) To guarantee or promise (to do something.)
(transitive) To bind through legal or moral obligation (to do something, especially to marry) (usually in passive)
(transitive) To engross or hold the attention of someone.
(transitive, archaic) To fascinate or win over someone.
(transitive) To employ or obtain the services of someone.
(transitive) To reserve or arrange the use of.
To mesh or interlock (of machinery, especially a clutch).
To cause to mesh or interlock. Whenever I engage the clutch, the car stalls out.

(intransitive) To enter into (an activity), to participate (construed with in).
(transitive) To keep busy or occupied.
(transitive) To attract, to draw into conversation.
(transitive) To enter into conflict with (an enemy).
(intransitive) To enter into battle.
To bring together or prepare before fighting.

Which types of environments are you aware of?

Environments (Habitats)

Built environment, constructed surroundings that provide the setting for human activity, ranging from the large-scale civic surroundings to the personal places.

Environment (systems), the surroundings of a physical system that may interact with the system by exchanging mass, energy, or other properties

Knowledge environment, may be defined as social practices, technological and physical arrangements intended to facilitate collaborative knowledge building, decision making, inference or discovery, depending on the epistemological premises and goals.

Natural environment, all living and non-living things that occur naturally on Earth

Social environment, the culture that an individual lives in, and the people and institutions with whom they interact
