Exercise

What are the goals:

  • How can ordering and grouping of media be achieved
  • What orders are there?
  • What threads can be found?
  • How does this affect how it is understood?

Social matrix:

  • 3 groups

Timespan:

  • 1 hr

Preparation

  • 3 colours of wool
  • Masking tape
  • 3 x A1 foamcore
  • 60 printouts of random content from media platform, including any user-generated tags
  • Postits
  • Pens etc
  • 3 pairs of scissors
  • pins

Introduction (5 mins)

Activity (40 mins)

  1. Group the packets given into self-defined groups and label
  2. Create 3 threads through the media, the threads should cross the groups. (And label)
  3. The groups come together and each group takes a turn to present and answer the questions about their work.

Discussion (15 mins)

Pointer questions from us to them..

  • How/Why were your groupings?
  • How/Why were your threads?
  • Consider the relations/commonalities presented by the groups
